The Mission
Quantelix is on a mission to disrupt the $34B biosensing market using quantum technology. We’re still in stealth mode, but we’ve raised a significant seed round from savvy investors, and we’re building out our team and our product. We’re looking for someone with the right combination of technical skills and an entrepreneurial spirit to be our first Packaging Engineer. If you have the experience and skills described below, and you want to help change a massive market, then reach out to us.
Required Skills and Experience:
PhD related to quantum optics and photonics or a related B.S. and 3 years’ experience in industry working on quantum optics and photonics. Must have hands-on experience integrating optical components into working hardware and debugging across optical, thermal, electrical, and mechanical interfaces
Responsibilities
We are looking for a Packaging Engineer to connect Quantelix's ppTFLN photonic chips to the full instrument. This includes optical interfaces, detectors, electronics, thermal control, mechanics, and manufacturable assembly. You will work closely with the Photonics Engineer, CTO, external design/fabrication partners, and in-house prototype builders. You will get to:
Own the core device platform of an early-stage company and help transition it from laboratory demonstrations to repeatable, scalable hardware.
Build early prototypes and drive the transition from single, hand-built demonstrations to repeatable, manufacturable hardware.
Work directly with our Co-founder & Chief Scientific Advisor, Prof. Scott Cushing to take our optical/quantum measurement approach and translate it into practical instrumentation choices.
Ideal Background
Experience packaging integrated photonics, optoelectronics, lasers, detectors, sensors, or precision optical instruments.
Experience with fiber arrays, fiber optics, filters, detectors, or free-space optical chains of components.
Strong ability to move between design, hands-on assembly, optical testing, vendor management, and design iteration.
Comfort serving as the bridge between chip design, electronics, thermal/mechanical engineering, and product-level requirements.
Compensation & Equity
Competitive cash compensation plus meaningful founding-team equity.
Specific cash and equity package to be discussed with finalists based on experience and scope.
Location & Work Arrangement
Based in / willing to relocate to Los Angeles.
Regular in-person time in Pasadena for cofounder working sessions, Cushing-lab visits, recruiting, and partner/customer engagements.
To express interest, reach out directly with your CV: careers@quantelix.ai
Applications are reviewed by the Chief of Staff and forwarded to the cofounders. Shortlisted candidates selected for interview will be asked to sign a mutual NDA, after which they will receive Quantelix’s confidential seed memorandum and supporting materials.
